Terms — Atrest Vaping

Atrest is made by Aravinthan Nair, an individual developer in Belgium. This page sets out what the app is, what it is not, and what you can expect from it.

Your licence to use the app

Atrest is distributed through the App Store, and your licence to use it is Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement. That agreement governs. This page does not replace it and is not a separate licence — it is here to say plainly what the standard agreement does not cover.

This is not medical advice

Atrest is not a medical device and it is not treatment. It does not diagnose anything, it does not know anything about your health, and nothing in it should be taken as advice from a clinician. What it offers is somewhere to put a craving and a record of your own days, kept by you.

Nicotine dependence is a medical matter and there is real help for it. A doctor or pharmacist can talk to you about what is available. In Belgium, Tabacstop is free, anonymous and staffed by specialists on 0800 111 00. Elsewhere, your national quit line will do the same. If you are in danger or in a medical emergency, call your local emergency number.

Please do not stop, start or change any medication because of something in this app.

What it costs

This version is free. There is nothing to buy inside it, no subscription, and no part of it held back behind a payment. If that changes in a future version, it will be visible before you get there, and it will not take away anything you already have.

Your content is yours

Everything you write, record and keep in the app belongs to you. It stays on your device. I claim no rights over it, I have no way to reach it, and I could not use it even if I wanted to. See the privacy page for the detail.

What I can and cannot promise

I build this carefully and I test it. I cannot promise it will work perfectly on every device, or that a future release of iOS will not break something, or that data on your phone cannot be lost — phones are lost, replaced and reset, and the app holds no copy anywhere else. Keep a backup if what you have written matters to you.

Beyond that, the app is provided as it is, and my liability is limited as far as the law allows. Nothing on this page reduces the rights you have as a consumer under Belgian or EU law, which apply whatever this page says.

Using it sensibly

Do not use the app to break the law, and do not try to pull it apart or work around how it is built beyond what the law expressly permits. There is no service to disrupt, no account to abuse and no one else's data in it, so there is not much else to ask of you.

Age

The App Store rates Atrest 18+.

That rating is about subject matter. Apple's questionnaire asks how often an app refers to tobacco, alcohol or drug use, and for an app about quitting vaping the honest answer is "frequently" — which produces an 18+ rating whatever the reason for the references. The established quit-smoking apps carry the same rating for the same reason.

Atrest does not show vaping or smoking, does not depict any nicotine product, and does not encourage anyone to use one. It exists to help people stop. I have not sought a lower rating than the questionnaire produced.

Changes, and stopping

The app will change as it is worked on, and this page changes with it, with the date at the top moved. You can stop at any time by deleting the app, which takes its data with it.

Law

Belgian law applies. If you are a consumer in the EU, you keep the protection of the law of the country you live in and can bring proceedings before its courts.
